A site written by concerned parents of children attending and hoping to attend Ulva Primary School, one of the many small schools singled out for cost-cutting closure by Argyll & Bute’s proposed Education Review.
Reading the posts and knowing the island, the closure of Ulva School would be like a localised highland clearance of the area, making it unviable for young families to live in the area. the proposal to teach primary school children in Dervaig just doesn’t stack up. Between travel time and the risk of dangerous driving conditions in the winter, the only sensible thing to do is to maintain Ulva Primary School. As the school also doubles as the only community infrastructure in the area, what is the council’s proposal for the building. Are they still going to maintain and look after the building?
Sometimes the council has blinkers when it comes to finances – take the blinkers off and see the real world – look after the communities you are there to look after!
